Redefining values, purpose, goals and the way forward through focused leadership coaching.
Instilling leadership with heart & integrity and developing skills, behaviours approaches that unite and inspire.
Team development - skills, management, motivation & impact – creating a shared ethos and more organic collaboration.
Supporting and turning around conflict, stress, burn out and relationship breakdown and bringing about deeper and stronger and more honest and supportive relationships in the business as a result.
I specialise in the design industry because of my love and passion for all things creative and for the unique, individualistic and driven people the industry attracts.
I was one of the first experts on the Design Business Association Expert List and have seen many of my clients go from start up and small to award winning and international.
I have had the privilege of coaching hundreds of CEO's, Partners, senior design leaders and specialist teams from a wide range of highly creative and successful businesses from start up to homegrown to global, working across all areas of design - fashion, architecture, product, television, branding, events & attractions, film, and interiors.
Over the past 20 years I have worked with companies such as: Landor, Gensler, Callison RTKL, EDGE, McCann, Kinn+Carta, HOK, Ogilvy, Burberry, Dalziel & Pow, TOG, Ideo, KKD, Edelman, DotCrew, Arquitectonica, The Team, Ideo, Portland Design, Conran, Fitch, Condé Nast
My process is first to have a series of informal conversations with all of the stakeholders involved just to get an overarching feel for the company, the dynamics, the history up to that point and how people are doing. This then moves to more in-depth analysis of the main blocks and opportunities for the business, and individual goals for themselves, their role, their team and the wider company. I then draw up a structured programme with agreed goals, milestones, benchmarks and timescales.
Once this is in place - each session is completely spontaneous, responsive and in the moment but always safely held within the overarching framework of where everyone needs to get to, needs to achieve, and needs to connect in order make the milestones collaborative, cohesive and impactful for the whole company, not just those taking part in the programme.
I take and share feedback throughout, as well as resolving issues as they arise in real time, and giving advice and guidance to ensure each stage of the programme results in tangible actions and follow-throughs up to the end of the coaching and beyond so that all changes truly bed down long term into the culture.
Responding to client needs and feedback, I moved to online-only sessions in 2016 which allows me to work around tight or ever changing client schedules and be more flexible in the times I work and to encompass a wider global reach as I can now easily bring leadership groups together from any country.
And since then I have run hundreds of one to one, team and partner sessions, multi-location workshops, have closely advised major changes in companies from expansion, to mergers, to relocating, to management buy-out, to reconfiguring the partners, equity and status of a company. I have held industry-wide collaborative workshops so that senior design leaders can come together from different firms, disciplines and countries to learn, share and develop.
Online sessions are much more focused but also much more relaxed and intimate - client feedback is that they are more able to go inward and connect more when they no longer had to worry about "presenting" themselves to me in an in person session.
This enables us to get to the heart of the matter and to solutions and strategies much faster and much more organically. And I have consistently found that less sessions are needed to get to where we really need to be to make deeper, more lasting and impactful changes.
One to one or group sessions which focus on developing a much more honest and inspiring leadership through greater wisdom and courage and a genuine vision for the shared success of their teams, coupled with the compassion to lead others with authenticity, empathy and fairness.
One to one or group sessions to help leaders & senior managers to understand and take responsibility for the impact that their behaviour and decisions have on others. And to learn how to harness their skills and experience to consciously influence and create positive impact.
One to one or group sessions which focus on helping leaders create, develop and disseminate a compelling vision for the business which is flexible, scalable & responsive to internal or external events. Also with a strong focus on how to get managers & staff to engage and follow through with the strategies developed.
“I've worked with Rachel for over 15 years. We first met when she was hired by Gensler to coach the Principals and the Senior Associates.
She has an uncanny way of finding the key strengths and maybe more importantly, weaknesses in individuals and organizations. With that insight, she is able to open new opportunities and awareness of the impact we have on our colleagues and clients.
She is an intuitive coach, knows when to challenge and when to empathize, knows when to ask a question and knows when to listen. She is an expert in the design field and her inside knowledge and contacts are invaluable to a business who is wishing to grow and develop.
I would happily recommend Rachel to any firm who wants to make specific changes to their culture and way of working, or wants to strengthen their leadership team. She is a pleasure to work with, always professional and positive and always ready to give advice and support.”
"Rachel is an excellent coach with an unmatched deep and diverse expertise in the creative industry.
She helps instil a better and more natural leadership style which in turn makes more successful teams and companies.
I have known Rachel for many years and it's always very easy to reconnect and have meaningful and insightful conversations about live topics today, alongside scenario planning for the future.
Her style is holistic, being able to join the dots between many topics, and is always adaptive as the conversation evolves. Most importantly, she is an excellent listener and communicator, and is always a pleasure to connect with!"
"Rachel was a hugely effective catalyst in driving major and significant change for us and our business, with both great determination and sensitivity. She is always supportive, and a wise, insightful sounding board and coach for us, and remains so even now.
I would not hesitate in recommending her."
"Rachel is a talented and intuitive coach. She worked with us on a number of individual and team projects over a period of years coaching both senior design and client services staff. And it was clear to see that all of the sessions had a positive impact on each person in subtle but noticeable ways, affecting not only their own performance and out put, but also contributing massively to the positive outcomes for their teams and the company as a whole.
Rachel’s down to earth, natural style enables her to quickly build rapport with everyone she works with. And her skill and experience at getting people to open up to her and to new ways of working, ensures they get the most out of every session.
She is flexible in her approach and is a joy to work with and has made a significant positive contribution to the way that we all work together.”
"A huge thanks to Rachel for her informative, introspective and enlightening workshop series The Gift of Time which I highly recommend. Rachel goes above and beyond and even provides one to one check in sessions after each workshop to ensure your progress.
I learnt so much during these workshops, I loved talking with and listening to other professionals in the design industry, and particularly enjoyed the unexpected holistic aspect that came into them.
There is often not a lot of time to spend on yourself so I really got a lot out of our coaching workshops. Thanks again Rachel!"
"I highly recommend Rachel, she was instrumental in my successful transition into a new role at my firm, helping me to build confidence and thoughtful approaches to challenges.
Rachel provided invaluable guidance and support that enabled me to prioritize effectively and develop strategies to work with different and sometimes demanding personalities. Her expertise in interpersonal communication and conflict resolution equipped me with the tools to build strong, collaborative relationships with my colleagues."
"Few people can step into a stranger’s life with competing professional goals and spot the correct next steps that lead to open doors and finding balance, like Rachel.
I had the pleasure of being coached by Rachel when I first moved to London from Sydney and took a new and radically different role with Kin+Carta. She advised and supported me throughout this whole process. And then worked closely with me for my first 6 months. Being able to bounce ideas off her so I could shape my vision and goals was invaluable. She is always honest and supportive and has amazing industry expertise coupled with unique insights - there was nothing she couldn’t coach me to solve.
She is an inspirational and tenacious individual who leads by example while sole parenting and running her own business and I cannot recommend her more highly as a coach and a mentor."
"Rachel has been my coach for the last year. And it is the 2nd time I have partnered with her. Each time the experience has been truly transformational, magical and game changing. A perfect blend of professional + personal guidance. Rachel has held space for me and taken with me a journey to discover who I am and where / who I want to be. Anyone interested in coaching that approaches the practice to evolve the whole self - I would highly recommend partnering with her. She has truly helped me approach the next phase of life, career and parenting to a whole new level. Thank you so much."
"I highly recommend Rachel as a coach. Her ability to understand and explain sometimes complex business relationships was valuable to me during a step-change in my career. Her experience and insight allowed me to modify my approach to colleagues with immediately positive results.
The most valuable change Rachel bought about was developing my communication skills to be more clear and assertive. This provided junior members of my team with reassurance and confidence in what was expected of them. It also bought about a change in my relationships with senior managers, including greater trust and closer collaboration. I hope to work with her again."
"Rachel is fantastic. She brings a wonderful combination of emotional intelligence and analytical rigour. This allows conversations to flow naturally, whilst never losing sight of the bigger picture.
I really enjoyed our time working together and found the all insights and outcomes from our coaching sessions incredibly useful. "
My experience of the coaching Rachel did with us is that she was always there for us as a great sounding board, always calm and fair minded t providing really good advice and thought provoking comments which helped to get me to a place where I was happy personally, and comfortable with the new direction of the business.
And she always made time to talk to help me work through issues. A year later, the business has a new shape, clarity, vigour and a positive future. Best of all, the happiness factor is back! Onwards & upwards & a big thank you to Rachel for being there throughout”.
"Rachel worked with our organization for over a number of years when she ran individual and group coaching programs with all of the leaders.
I found her work with me to be particularly helpful in my transition to a more senior design leadership role.
Rachel's ability to balance and tailor my individual needs and aspirations to those of the organization's were invaluable.
Qualified, equipped, funny, sharp and challenging (in a good way!) Rachel's approach is always personable and professional."
"I attended Rachel’s online collaborative workshop series and follow-up coaching sessions during lockdown and they were truly transformational. I found her passion, energy and attentiveness incredibly refreshing and she cares so deeply about each one of her clients.
I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking clarity and wisdom in their life. Thank you, Rachel!"
"I can truly say that I wouldn’t be where I am in my career and achieved what I have without Rachel’s coaching and mentoring.
I met Rachel early on in my career and have recently sought her support in more senior career moves. Rachel’s commitment to support, care, guidance, honest advice, and commitment to helping others to ‘become their better selves’ is all-encompassing. She is very knowledgeable, compassionate, warm and actually cares.
I would highly recommend her to everyone!"
" Rachel is a delight to work with, and provided us with an open, knowledgeable and professional approach to developing and improving our business strategy. Her advice has helped us grow and strengthen our leadership team. And her coaching has ensured we all have a greater understanding of the core strengths of our individuals and how to galvanize their skills to align with our core business goals. "
"Rachel coached us though a major transition period in the business. Her dedication, optimism, market knowledge and clear thinking were invaluable and her coaching approach has helped set us on a road to growth with a clear plan to achieve individual and team goals. Her focus on transparency and communication still continue to enhance our business performance."
"I have had the pleasure of working with Rachel on two separate stages in my career, and each time I found the coaching sessions were both enjoyable and highly rewarding. I learnt a lot about myself in both a professional and personal capacity and these learnings and insights have proved to be integral to my career development and progress to date. I still use the key concepts and approaches from the coaching, and have shared them with my colleagues and design teams to aid them in their own professional personal development.
I highly recommend Rachel’s approach to working with both senior management teams and individuals looking to change and improve."
